Six-Time Champion Terry Borcheller Ministers to Teens

Terry has won six professional racing  championships and this 2003 season, he is the first ever champion in the Grand America Daytona Prototype class. In 2002 he was crowned champion in the Grand-Am SRP-II class driving a Lola B2K Nissan. He has been a factory driver for Saleen since 1998 and won the 2001 GTS Class championship in the American LeMans Series & was the 2000 Grand-Am GTO class champion driving a Saleen Mustang.  He finished third in class during  the 24 hours of Le Mans in France in 2001, the most prestigious sport scar race in the world.  His professional racing days go all the way back to 1991 while he drove in the Barber Saab Pro Series.

Borcheller has been instrumentally involved in the Light Racing ministry of Motorsports Ministries. Light Racing is a ministry to teens, mostly from inner cities, that brings them to the venues of sports car racing,  connecting them with drivers and teams, and sharing a message of spiritual encouragement and help.  While many of the team=s drivers and various crew members provided autographs, pictures, and explanation about the cars, Terry meets with the teens to share his testimony and a message from the Word of God.  At several events, young people received Jesus Christ as their Savior, dealt with problems in their lives and committed themselves to become a part of a local church ministry in their community.

Speaking to groups of kids is really why I'm here, observed Borcheller.  It is easy when you are at the  track to lose your focus and become so involved in  winning.  I feel that God is compelling me to speak out for Him and share my faith with others.  When I stop and take the time to prepare my heart to speak to teens and then interact with them, I am far better able to concentrate at the right level when I drive.

I'd love to have a youth rally in every city where we race in 2002.   I' d like to see us bring not just the kids from churches in the city but from all over the community together.  I believe it is so important to be an  example to them so they will believe it is possible to live a life that is right in a world that is all twisted.  I believe in Christian mentoring.  I wish I had someone  who would have been a role model like that for me.  I hope we can get the kids excited about racing and have them become fans. If they begin to follow what  we are doing, then our message will have a lot more impact.  I think that is why God has given me credibility as a front-runner in the races and He has been so persistent with me in building my character.

Motorsports Ministries has been a recognized part of the Sports Car and Road Racing community for the past 17 years.  It is a non-denominational ministry  that serves the racing community as it travels throughout the country.  Worship services are the focal point of the ministry but chaplains also provide counsel and encouragement to those involved in racing.  They conduct many of the same ministries that a pastor would perform for his congregation, such as  weddings, baby dedications, hospital visits, comfort in times of crisis, and Biblical counsel.
